Contemporary Surrealist Artist
Through vibrant color, symbolism, and meticulous craftsmanship, I create surrealist artwork that explores the hidden worlds contained within memory, nature, identity, and imagination. My paintings invite viewers to look beyond the surface and discover deeper stories, unexpected connections, and a renewed sense of wonder.
Working from the Brooke Illustrations Studio, I create a limited body of original artwork distinguished by refined detail, symbolic storytelling, and an intentional creative process. Each piece is an exploration of what lies between reality and imagination—a space where ordinary subjects become vessels for extraordinary meaning.
My Journey
Art has been the one constant throughout my entire life.
Growing up as an Army dependent meant that change was a regular part of my childhood. Schools changed. Friends changed. Communities changed. Every few years, life would be packed into boxes and relocated somewhere new. Through all of that uncertainty, art remained the one thing I could always carry with me.
With little more than graphite pencils and paper, I began developing my skills in realism. Since color wasn't readily available to me, I became fascinated by light, shadow, and tonal contrast. Those early years taught me to observe carefully and appreciate the small details that bring a subject to life.

At fifteen years old, I received my first professional commission: a portrait of my father's Army commander.
That single drawing opened an unexpected door.
The commission led to a series of military brigade drawings commemorating deployment tours. As demand grew, I gained early experience in print production, quality control, and the responsibility that comes with creating artwork for others. It wasn't enough for the drawings to be good—they needed to faithfully capture every detail and reproduce beautifully in print.
After selling hundreds of prints, I was able to use the proceeds to help fund my education at Ringling College of Art + Design.

By the time I entered college, I was also navigating life as a young single mother, trying to understand both my place in the world and my identity as an artist. While studying traditional techniques, I was introduced to something that would reshape my creative perspective: color.
Art school expanded my understanding of what art could be. Beyond technical skill, it taught me about curiosity, storytelling, wonder, and the power of visual metaphor.
Yet throughout those years, I frequently encountered criticism that realism was not "real art"—that it was simply reproducing what a camera could already do.
Ironically, that foundation in realism would become one of my greatest strengths.
After graduating, I joined BioLucid as a medical studio artist, creating detailed medical illustrations and visualizations. The work was fascinating and reinforced the value of precision, observation, and technical excellence. While I appreciated the impact that medical art can have on education and patient understanding, I eventually found myself longing for something more personal and imaginative.
After becoming pregnant with my second child, I left the studio environment and began a career as a freelance illustrator.
For more than a decade, I created commissioned artwork for a wide variety of clients and projects. The experience was rewarding and allowed me to continue growing as an artist, but beneath each commission remained a persistent question:
What is my own artistic voice?
As life has entered a new season, I have found myself returning to that question with renewed purpose.

Today, my work explores themes of transformation, memory, belonging, wonder, and the unseen worlds that exist beneath everyday experience. Through surrealism, I have discovered a way to combine the technical realism I spent decades mastering with the imagination, symbolism, and storytelling that have always captivated me.
This journey is still unfolding.
And I invite you to join me as I continue exploring the extraordinary worlds that exist just beyond the edge of reality.
